3 on 3 Summer League
2008
We will once again be running our very popular 3 on 3 league out of Kennebec Ice Arena and Kents Hill Ice Arena with games taking place on weeknight evenings for the 6th consecutive year. There will also be a Portland League this year. Times and dates soon to be added.
The league will include mites-bantams. All teams will have a maximum of 10 players plus one goalie. Team cost is $1870. Individuals may also sign up at a cost of $170 per player. Individual sign ups will be placed on teams as needed. If no slots are available, your money will be returned. The league will consist of 4 travel caliber teams and 4 house caliber teams in each division. We do reserve the right to move teams during the season to help ensure more equal games if necessary.
All 2nd year squirts and 1st year peewees will be provided with a checking clinic at no additional charge prior to the start of the season. This date will be posted on the website and also emailed out to the league as a whole. The date will be set once all teams have been placed and the schedule has been set. The weekly game schedule will be posted once all the teams are registered. WE DO FILL UP FAST, so please register early as we did turn players away last year. Games will be played once per week for 8 weeks either at Kents Hill or Kennebec Ice Arena on either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday nights. Game times will vary from week to week but no games will be played earlier than 5:00pm and bantam games will start no later than 8:40pm. “3 on 3 hockey provides much better opportunities for players to develop”
As quoted by Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux on 3 on 3 hockey

2008 3on3 Rules
Official USA Hockey rules will be in place with the following additions/exceptions.
Each team will play games which will consist of 3 (12 minute) stop time periods.
A two-minute warm-up will be given prior to the start of each game. A goal differential of 6 goals or more in the 3rd period will result in automatic run time. We will return to stop time if the differential goes back to below 6.
A maximum total of 4 players may be represented on the ice from each team at any given time. (with the exception of the rule below regarding a 4-goal differential).
Minor Penalty will result in a penalty shot (with chasers). The non-penalized team will choose one player to start on the offensive blue line for a penalty shot. All other players on the ice will start at the red line and chase the player with the puck. On the whistle the player with the puck will attempt to score on the opposing goalie. The chasers will also start on the whistle and play any rebound. If the goalie makes the save play will stop and a face off will result as in a regular shot on net. If a rebound is given or the net is missed play will resume as usual without a stoppage in play. If a goal is scored play will stop and play will stop as in the case of a normal goal and a face off will start play again at center ice.
Double minor will be a 2 -minute penalty and major penalty will be 5 minutes. Fighting will result in automatic ejection from the entire league.
Checking is allowed in peewees and bantams.
Ties are allowed in the regular season but in the playoffs, or Championship no ties are allowed.
Point system
2 points will be awarded to the winning team of each regular game.
**** 1 point will be awarded to each team in the event of a tie during regular game time. HOWEVER no game will end in a tie. In the event a game does end in a tie each team will receive 1 point with the possibility of earning another point in overtime.
0 points will be given to a losing team of each regular game.
Overtime- in playoffs only
ANY playoff game that ends in a tie will automatically go into an overtime period.
Overtime will consist of the following. First team to score wins.
1 minute additional 3 on 3.
1 minute 2 on 2
1 minute 1 on 1
If a tie still exists following the 1 on 1 then we will proceed to goalie vs. goalie until one team scores.
All players must be rostered. If you are missing a player, you may ask someone already rostered in the Top Dog 3 on 3 program to play but they must be at the same level (peewee recreation player missing, peewee recreation player filling in)
There will be a list of goalies placed on the site if your goalie is missing.
Playoffs (only players that are on the official roster at the start of the season will be allowed to play in the playoffs). Any player caught playing for a team where they are not on the official roster the game will be forfeited. )
The final standings will be determined upon the completion of all regular games. Standings will be based on the point system mentioned above. In the event of a tie in points, head to head competition will determine the higher seed. If a tie still exists then goals for/goals allowed will determine the higher seed. If a tie still exists than the team with the least penalty minutes will be determined the higher seed.
In divisions with 4 teams the 1st place seed will play the 4th place seed and the 2nd seed will play the 3rd seed. The two winners will move on to a championship and the two losing teams will play in a consolation game.
In divisions where there are 6 teams seed 1 will play seed 1 vs. 4, 2 vs 3, 5 vs 6. The winners of the 1/4 and 2/3 will play in a championship. The remaining teams will play a consolation game based on highest seed in the regular season verses lowest and so on.
In divisions where there are 8 teams: We will divide the 8 teams into two divisions a tier 1 and tier 2 and play the season in two tiers with tier 1 player tier 1 and tier 2 playing tier 2 teams. These tiers will then follow the 4-team playoff format.
